Abstract

Alle gewünschten Fachinformationen auf einen Tastendruck, wer wünscht sich das nicht? Die schnelle, unkomplizierte und gezielte Versorgung der "Informationssuchenden" mit qualifizierten Fachinformationen spielt daher für Informationsdienstleister in Industrie, Wissenschaft und Alltag eine wachsende Rolle und ist eine wesentliche Voraussetzung ihrer Wettbewerbsfähigkeit.

"Die Diskrepanz zwischen Bedarf und Realität Einer Studie der Arthur D. Little International und der Gesellschaft für Innovationsforschung und Beratung im Auftrag des BMBF zufolge, stellt die Informationsversorgung einen Engpass im wissenschaftlichen Arbeitsprozess für über ein Drittel der Wissenschaftler in Forschungseinrichtungen und Unternehmen dar. Als problematisch gilt einerseits die Informationsrecherche und andererseits die Beschaffung recherchierter Dokumente. Als Rechercheprobleme werden vor allem folgende Faktoren aufgeführt: - unterschiedliche Suchoberflächen und Anzeigeformate - große, unübersichtliche Treffermengen - Unsicherheit über die Vollständigkeit oder Relevanz der Recherchebasis - fehlende Übersicht der Rechercheangebote - uneinheitliche Serviceoptionen - unterschiedliche Beschaffungswege Kurz gesagt: Der globalen und heterogenen Informationslandschaft mangelt es an Transparenz für den Endnutzer. Unterschiedliche Ouellen wie Fach-, Norm- und Patentdatenbanken, Online-Bibliothekskataloge, Pressedienste, Suchmaschinen, Datenbanken im Intranet müssen nacheinander durchsucht und gesichtet werden. Die Konsequenzen sind: - Investition eigener Arbeitszeit in die Informationsrecherche und -beschaffung sowie das Selektieren ungenau recherchierter Informationen verursachen Zeitaufwand. - erhöhter Kostenaufwand durch sequentielles Recherchieren und zu langer Verweildauer in kostenpflichtigen Datenbanken - Informationsdefizite, weil die Anwender nur einige, ihnen vertraute Informationsquellen nutzen - Motivationsverlust durch das Missverhältnis von hohem Rechercheaufwand, langer Recherchedauer und geringer Erfolgsquote Das Problem ist erkannt und es gibt gute Ansatzpunkte, die unstrukturierte Informationsflut in den Griff zu bekommen.
