Abstract

Physikerin und Wissenschaftsjournalistin ist die Autorin, und sie bietet hier einen äusserst interessanten und laienverständlichen Streifzug durch das menschliche und z.T. auch das tierische Gehirn. Nach einem Einblick in die Geschichte und Erkenntnise der Hirnforschung sowie einer Übersicht über Aufbau und Funktionen des Gehirn behandelt sie vorwiegend Themen, die im weitesten Sinne die Unterschiede bzw. Ähnlichkeiten bei den Geschlechtern betreffen. Es sind dies neben den Fragen nach den Ursachen für die biologische Differenzierung der Geschlechter auch solche nach der Entstehung und Äusserung von Krankheiten, Gefühlen, Sprache, Intelligenz, Aggression und sexueller Orientierung sowie die Unterschiede und die möglichen Störungen bei der Sinneswahrnehmung. Alles in allem eine ausführliche, gut lesbare und spannende Lektüre mit Sachregister und kurzer annotierter Literaturliste.
