Abstract

"The Big Typescript" ist seit dem "Tractatus" von 1922 und einer Unterbrechung seiner philosophischen Tätigkeit (er arbeitete als Volksschullehrer, Architekt und Klostergärtner) Wittgensteins erster Versuch, seine neueren Gedanken in einem Buch zusammenzufassen und damit die "schweren Irrtümer" (Wittgenstein) seines Frühwerks zu korrigieren. "Das Big Typescript' stellt nicht weniger als eine erste 'Summe' der philosophischen Reflexionen dar, die Wittgenstein seit 1929, also nach seiner Rückkehr nach Cambridge und der Wiederaufnahme des Philosophierens, angestellt hatte. Es enthält die Umarbeitungen und Neuordnungen des Materials, das zuvor in zehn Manuskriptbänden ... notiert worden war. Inhaltlich wird dem Leser bereits das gesamte Themenspektrum der Wittgenstein'schen 'Spätphilosophie' geboten - Bemerkungen zur Psvchologie, zu Logik und Grammatik der Sprache, zur philosophischen Methodenkritik und vor allem auch zur Mathematik. Die herausragende Bedeutung des Big Typescript' besteht aber in erster Linie darin, dass in ihm, kapitelweise geordnet, die in Wittgensteins Augen wertvollen Arbeitsergebnisse der Jahre 1929 bis 1933 in einer von ihm selbst konzipierten Gliederung vorgelegt werden."
