Abstract

Die Jahre 1919 bis 1929 markieren eine Epoche unvergleichlicher geistiger Kreativität, in der Gedanken zum ersten Mal gedacht wurden, ohne die das Leben und Denken in unserer Gegenwart nicht dasselbe wäre. Die großen Philosophen Ludwig Wittgenstein, Walter Benjamin, Ernst Cassirer und Martin Heidegger prägten diese Epoche und ließen die deutsche Sprache ein letztes Mal vor der Katastrophe des Zweiten Weltkriegs zur Sprache des Geistes werden. Wolfram Eilenberger, Bestsellerautor, langjähriger Chefredakteur des »Philosophie Magazins« und der wohl begabteste und zurzeit auffälligste Vermittler von Geistesgeschichte im deutschsprachigen Raum, erweckt die Philosophie der Zwanziger Jahre und mit ihr ein ganzes Jahrzehnt zwischen Lebenslust und Wirtschaftskrise, Nachkrieg und aufkommendem Nationalsozialismus zum Leben. Der kometenhafte Aufstieg Martin Heideggers und dessen Liebe zu Hannah Arendt. Der taumelnde Walter Benjamin, dessen amour fou auf Capri mit einer lettischen Anarchistin ihn selber zum Revolutionär macht. Der Genius und Milliardärssohn Wittgenstein der, während er in Cambridge als Gott der Philosophie verehrt wird, in der oberösterreichischen Provinz vollkommen verarmt Grundschüler unterrichtet. Und schließlich Ernst Cassirer, der Jahre vor seiner Emigration in den bürgerlichen Vierteln Hamburgs am eigenen Leib den aufsteigenden Antisemitismus erfährt. In den Lebenswegen und dem revolutionären Denken dieser vier Ausnahmephilosophen sieht Wolfram Eilenberger den Ursprung unserer heutigen Welt begründet.
