Abstract

The cost of housing and distributing information for national libraries in Britain increases every year. At the same time, national libraries in Britain and elsewhere are under increasing pressure to reduce their costs and to provide access to their valuable collections to a greater proportion of the populations they serve. Examines some fundamental problems facing these libraries and illustrates why and how large scale document imaging can solve this problem in an affordable manner
