Abstract

In many libraries the cataloging of materials in African languages is done of necessity by librarians who have little or no background in the languages or the subject matter. Guidelines and reference tools are suggested for the non-specialist cataloger, and suggestions are made for an appropriate attitude toward the whole problem.
