Abstract

Reports on a project to retro-convert the card catalogue for cartographic materials in the Royal Library in Copenhagen, covering the years 1996-1998. Describes the aims of the project, firstly to incorporate the records for these materials in the Library's bibliographic database REX, and secondly to create the 5-year cumulation of the Danish National Bibliography, Cartographic Materials, 1986-1990, from this database. Discusses the preparations made for the input of the records, the training of additional staff to do the keyboarding, and the MARC standard used. Detaiuls the various steps of the project leading to the eventual publication of the bibliography by the Library itself. Places the project in the context of the Royal Library's plan to convert all catalogues to machine readable form by 2000, and notes that future retrospective conversion will be by scanning
