Abstract
Innerhalb der letzten 10 Jahre war die Medienpolitik in Deutschland durch die grundsätzlichen Entwicklungslinien Internationalisierung, Privatisierung und Kommerzialisierung geprägt. Die Ausführungen verdeutlichen, daß auf die Bilderflut weder mit konventioneller Kulturkritik, noch mit affirmativer Utopik reagiert werden sollte, da die Menschen sehr wohl in der Lage sind, die moderne Bilderflut adäquat zu verarbeiten. Ausgehend von der Mediendebatte in Deutschland und der Diskussion des vermeintlichen Gegensatzes von elektronischen zu Printmedien, versuchen die Ausführungen auch einen Blick in die Zukunft, die von den begriffen Digital Kompression, interaktives Fernsehen, Integration aller Facetten der Telekommunikation, fortschreitende Computerisierung und Multimedia geprägt sein wird. Auf diese Entwicklungen kann von den Menschen, von der Gesellschaft als Ganzes in unterschiedlicher Weise reagiert werden. Von besonderer Bedeutung in diesem Zusammenhang ist hierbei die Beantwortung der Frage, ob der Wandel in der Kommunikationskultur durch Politik beeinflußbar ist
