Abstract

Der CD-ROM Technologie steht eine glänzende Zukunft bevor. Allein 2,5 Mio CD-ROM Einzellaufwerke sollen dieses Jahr laut Dataquest abgesetzt werden, und für 1995 wird weltweit eine Verkaufzahl von 4,2 Mio prognostiziert. In Amerika rechnen einige Auguren sogar mit 15 Mio Stück. Langsam mausert sich CD-ROM zum Standardlaufwerk und wird in absehbarer Zeit in allen Marken-PCs serienmäßig integriert werden. Dies ist spätestens in 2 Jahren der Fall, wenn der Laufwerkspreis die $ 50 Marke erreicht hat. Gegenwärtig liegt dieser bei $ 200 im low-cost Bereich. Allerdings ist wegen der verschiedenen Standards, Formate, Treiber, Anschlüsse und Geschwindigkeiten die richtige Anwendung von CD-ROM Laufwerken immer noch mit einigen Aufwand verbunden.
