Abstract

Reviews the history and the nature of the Internet gopher, a menu-drive interface which evolved from a system intended to distribute text documents to a highly customizable environment for providing access to files and network services. It is based on the client server model. A server is the machine that holds and organizes the data and the client is the computer and software that communicates with the server. Describes gopher server and client software and describes tools for locating information on the gopher
