Abstract
Welche Rolle spielen digitale Innovationen in der konventionellen, haptischen Welt? Für die Gedächtnisinstitutionen wie Bibliotheken, Archive und Museen, die täglich Objekte und Dokumente sammeln, stellt sich die Frage mit einiger Dringlichkeit. Speziell die Rolle von öffentlichen Bibliotheken wird im digitalen Zeitalter immer wieder thematisiert. Die Trennung von digitalen und analogen Inhalten verschwimmt in dem Masse, wie Nutzer:innen den Zugang zu den Inhalten hauptsächlich über die Suche am Bildschirm finden. Was El Lissitzky bereits 1923 als «Elektro-Bibliothek» gefordert hatte, die Ablösung von gedruckten Bögen durch elektronische Medien, ist heute teilweise Realität. Der Inhalt von Bibliotheken und Sammlungen verändert sich, entmaterialisiert sich und verlangt eine neue Ausrichtung des Angebotes und der Dienstleistungen. Eine Herausforderung, der sich die Institutionen durchaus mit Erfolg und neuen, rein digitalen Angeboten stellen.
Die Stiftung Sitterwerk lanciert seit der Gründung 2006 Projekte, die sich konsequent der Entwicklung innovativer Zugänge zu den Inhalten der Sammlungen von Werkstoffarchiv und Kunstbibliothek widmen. So werden diese nicht nur physisch-haptisch, sondern auch im digitalen Raum auf neuartige Weise erfahrbar. (2) Zum einen erlaubt die permanente Inventur mithilfe der RFID-Technologie eine stets veränderte Aufstellung der Bücher im Regal, also eine dynamische Ordnung. Zum anderen können die Recherchen auf der interaktiven Arbeitsoberfläche der Werkbank personalisiert, gespeichert und bearbeitet werden. Die Technologie ist jedoch keines Falls reiner Selbstzweck, sondern hilft sie da weiter, wo konventionelle Werkzeuge oder Methoden nicht ausreichen.
