Abstract
In diesem Dialog mit Volker Gerhardt aus dem Jahr 2012 vertritt Roth die Auffassung, dass wir innerlich weit weniger frei sind, als wir glauben. Ein Gespräch über die Möglichkeit, sein Leben dennoch selbst zu gestalten. Ein Kantianer und ein Hirnforscher: Ob das gut gehen kann? Es folgt ein angeregtes, fast zweistündiges Philosophieren über die Kraft des Unbewussten, frühkindliche Prägungen und die Wurzeln der menschlichen Freiheit. Nicht die Theorie, sondern die Praxis des Lebens bestimmt die Diskussion, so kommt schnell auch Persönliches zur Sprache. Insbesondere was den Umgang mit charakterlichen Schwächen betrifft, herrscht große Einigkeit zwischen dem Geistes- und dem Naturwissenschaftler.
