Abstract

Begleitband zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung im Deutschen Hygiene-Museum Dresden vom 23. Juli bis 30. Oktober 2011 und der Mährischen Galerie Brünn vom 8. Dezember 2011 bis 18. März 2012Ungeahnte Fortschritte in der neuronalen Bildgebung ermöglichen eindrucksvolle Einsichten in unser verborgenes Inneres. Während diese Bilder unser Verständnis von der Struktur und Funktionsweise des Gehirns rapide vorantreiben, werfen sie gleichzeitig die fundamentale Frage auf, inwieweit das immaterielle Geistesvermögen des Menschen tatsächlich in Bildern eingefangen werden kann.Der reich illustrierte Band vereint wissenschaftliche und künstlerische Untersuchungen zu diesem Thema und richtet dabei einen völlig neuen Blick auf den Geist als kulturelles und biologisches Phänomen. Beiträge international renommierter Spezialisten bieten im Essayteil interdisziplinäre Einsichten in aktuelle Fragestellungen. Der kommentierte Bildteil erforscht Schlüsseldarstellungen von herausragenden Künstlern und wegweisenden Wissenschaftlern. So entsteht ein faszinierendes Portrait menschlicher Geistesrepräsentationen, das die Bedeutung der visuellen Anschauung bei der ewigen Suche nach dem Kern des Menschseins veranschaulicht.
