Abstract

'Wissen ist Macht'- der englische Philosoph Francis Bacon (1561-1626) wusste, wovon er sprach: Informiert sein, Bescheid wissen, mitreden können, etwas in Gang setzen. Erst das Wissen um die Dinge und ihre Ursachen macht es möglich, sich an Entscheidungsprozessen zu beteiligen. Dies gilt für die 'großen' Entscheidungen in Politik und Wirtschaft allemal; E-Democracy und E-Business sind Schlagworte, die auf aktuelle Entwicklungen in diesen Bereichen verweisen und die deutlich machen, dass politische und wirtschaftliche Prozesse schon heute von neuen digitalen Entwicklungen beeinflusst und verändert werden. Gleiches gilt im 'Kleinen', im Alltag jedes Einzelnen: Sparsam einkaufen kann nur, wer die billigen Quellen kennt, die gängige Kleidung kann nur tragen, wer über die Trends informiert ist, die preiswerte ,last-minute-Reise' kann nur buchen, wer weiß, wo er die 'Schnäppchen' findet und so weiter und so fort, bis hin zu Schule und Arbeitsplatz, wo sich nur behaupten kann, wer über das nötige Wissen verfügt, ja, wer in der Lage ist, sich künftig beispielsweise über E-Learning-Angebote weiterzuentwickeln. Was genau Wissen ausmacht, ob es ein lexikalisch kategorisierbares und bei Bedarf abrufbares Phänomen ist oder eher eine lebendige soziale Kompetenz, ist bisher nicht geklärt. Über den Begriff der Information und ihre quantitativen und qualitativen Eigenschaften haben schon die Kommunikations- und Informationstheoretiker der ersten Hälfte des vorigen Jahrhunderts miteinander gerungen. Und ob sich Wissen und Information voneinander abgrenzen lassen, darüber herrscht unter Fachleuten bis heute keine einhellige Meinung. Erkennbar ist allerdings, dass die Bedeutsamkeit von Information und Wissen in allen gesellschaftlichen Bereichen - auch in Kunst und Kultur - zunimmt und dass Bacon im modernen Sinn aktuell ist: Nur wer informiert ist, wer über das notwendige Wissen verfügt, kann teilhaben an den gesellschaftlichen Prozessen. Damit ist das Thema für die politische Bildungsarbeit überaus aktuell, und deshalb setzt die Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung mit diesem Band ihr Multimedia-Angebot für den Bereich der Medienpädagogik fort. Als neuer Band in der Reihe 'medienpädagogik' versammelt er fachlich versierte Beiträge zu diesem Thema, die gleichzeitig auf der beigefügten CD-ROM und unter www.medienpaedagogik-online.de im Internet erscheinen. Wir danken den Herausgebern sowie den Autorinnen und Autoren und allen, die am Zustandekommen des Bandes mitgewirkt haben. Über eine positive Resonanz würden wir uns freuen, eine kritische Würdigung trägt zur Fortentwicklung des Projekts bei.
