Abstract

Der folgende Beitrag will eine kurze Zwischenbilanz der nationalen Anstrengungen bei der Retrodigitalisierung gemeinfreier Schriften in Deutschland versuchen. Er plädiert nachdrücklich dafür, alle mit dem laufenden Aufbau der Deutschen Digitalen Bibliothek verbundenen Chancen zu nutzen. Das bedeutet für die Bibliotheken, Archive und Museen in Kooperation mit dem Kompetenznetzwerk DDB, die Transparenz des bereits Geleisteten und die Performanz der Nutzung deutlich zu verbessern. An die Unterhaltsträger und Fördereinrichtungen wird der Wunsch gerichtet, die Investitionen in die Digitalisierung komplementär zu den privatwirtschaftlichen Projekten (insbesondere von Google) nicht nur fortzusetzen, sondern mit einer klaren Road-map und nationalen Strategie nochmals zu stärken, damit die digitale Transformation für alle Wissenschaftsdisziplinen in der notwendigen Breite,Tiefe und Qualität gelingt.
