Abstract

vascoda (www.vascoda.de), das Internetportal für wissenschaftliche Information, bietet seinen Nutzerinnen und Nutzern ab November 2007 eine neu gestaltete Oberfläche und zahlreiche verbesserte Funktionalitäten. In vascoda soll das Spektrum einer Vielzahl der in Deutschland bereits bestehenden Informationsdienstleistungen zusammengeführt werden, aber auch der Wechsel zu anderen Systemen erleichtert werden, um damit der Forderung der Nutzerinnen und Nutzer nach "Einfachheit" zu entsprechen. Der Einsatz moderner Suchmaschinentechnologie bietet eine Reihe komfortabler Möglichkeiten zur Recherche, die den Suchgewohnheiten der Nutzerinnen entsprechen. So ermöglicht vascoda die Optimierung der Recherche durch individuelle Sortierung und Filterung der Ergebnislisten sowie unterschiedliche Navigationsangebote in Fachgruppen und Fächern. Umfangreiche Untersuchen, die im vascoda Projekt zwischen 2005 und 2007, gefördert durch das BMBF, durchgeführt wurden, haben gezeigt, welche Ansprüche und Nutzungsgewohnheiten sich bei Internet-Usern etabliert haben. Dies sind neben der Einfachheit in der Benutzung von Suchmaschinen der deutliche Wunsch nach einer Orientierungsmöglichkeit im großen, zum Teil unübersichtlichen Angebot unterschiedlichster Provider von wissenschaftlicher Information. Nutzerinnen und Nutzer wünschen sich, alle interdisziplinär relevante Literatur unter einer Oberfläche zu finden.
Insbesondere der interdisziplinäre Ansatz von vascoda und die Möglichkeit, die Recherche zielgenau auf die gewünschte fachliche Forschungsdisziplin einzugrenzen, sollen diesen Bedürfnissen entgegenkommen. Damit gelingt es vascoda, sich von der Vielzahl der am Markt etablierten kommerziellen Suchmaschinen abzugrenzen. So waren zum einen der geplante Einsatz von Suchmaschinentechnologie sowie die konkreten Forderungen der Nutzerinnen und Nutzer nach einer Optimierung des Retrievals in vascoda der Anlass, die Oberflächen von vascoda neu gestalten zu lassen. Grundlage dafür ist die so genannte vascoda Spezifikation 2007, die die konkreten Anforderungen an die Seitenstruktur sowie an Navigations- und Inhaltselemente detailliert beschreibt. Für das neue Design der vascoda-Seiten wurde mit Fördermitteln des BMBF eine externe Agentur beauftragt, die in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den vascoda-Verantwortlichen das "neue Gesicht" entwickelt hat.
