Wir stehen kurz vor einer Revolution, einem gesellschaftlichen Quantensprung. Denn das Internet ist mehr als nur Web 2.0. Vielmehr erzeugt es analog zum Signalsystem der Wale und Delphine eine Art Echoraum : Eine neue Art der Gleichzeitigkeit, die Zeit und Raum überwindet. Einen Prozess, bei dem die Kreativität jedes einzelnen nur so viel zählt wie das, was er im blitzschnellen Austausch mit anderen entwickelt. Kurz: Ein kollektives Superhirn , das unsere Art zu sein revolutioniert. Was bedeutet die virtuelle Revolution für die neuen Regeln des Zusammenlebens? Wie wird sie zum Ausgangspunkt für eine neue gesellschaftliche Vision? Mit dem Internet stehen wir, so Michael Maier, im Begriff, uns mit einem Quantensprung nicht nur von der klassischen 2-Weg-Kommunikation, sondern auch von den Regeln der Schriftkultur zu verabschieden und eine Art kollektives Superhirn auszubilden. Ein Paradigmenwechsel mit radikalen Konsequenzen vor allem für die alten Eliten, die mit der neuen Schnelligkeit und Transparenz der Kommunikation nicht Schritt halten können und in ihrem Festhalten an überkommenen Produktionsweisen und Prinzipien der Urheberschaft scheitern werden.

Kurzen Prozess macht Maier mit jenen, die "technikfeindlich" sind. Kaum der Rede wert findet er dabei, dass das Netz voll Müll ist, dass man die Perlen darin zeitintensiv suchen muss. Und dass man nicht findet, was man nicht gelernt hat zu finden - egal, ob es sich um einen wissenschaftlichen Aufsatz oder um einen energiesparenden Kühlschrank handelt. Und hat Maier mal Freunde und Bekannte gefragt, mit was sie im Internet so ihre Zeit verbringen? Vermutlich kennt er nur Leute, die dort uneigennützig und besonnen am großen Weltwissen stricken. Beschämt müssen wir zugeben: Wir nutzen das Netz vor allem auch, um Bücher zu bestellen. Wir sind hoffnungslos alte Elite."
