Abstract

This paper recommends that the Library of Congress and other libraries adopt Chinese syllable aggregation as it can help users understand Chinese records. It explains the practice of the four tones in the Chinese language. It suggests that catalogers should be consistent to catalog Chinese materials. It also makes comments on the Library of Congress' latest Pinyin Conversion Project report, and other articles on this topic. It suggests libraries learn Queens' public library system in order to allow users to retrieve, display, and print Chinese records with both English and Chinese characters.
