Abstract

Wissenschaft bleibt einer Wahrheit verpflichtet, die universell ist. Gleichwohl ruht bislang die weltumspannende Gemeinschaft des Wissens auf einem harten und bisweilen eigensinnigen nationalen Sockel. Der Wissenschaftsbetrieb bildete sich als Veranstaltung des Nationalstaates aus. Diese nationale Basis rutscht. »Globalisierung« bedeutet für die Wissenschaften, dass der nationale Raum nicht mehr allein oder vielleicht gar nur noch nachgeordnet für Ausrichtung und Stil, Medien und Mittel, Karriere und Reputation maßgeblich ist. Dies verlangt von Wissenschaftlern, Politikern und Verlagen, sich zu orientieren. Orientierung ist in zweierlei Hinsicht verlangt: welche tatsächlichen Optionen es gibt und welche Option vorzugswürdig ist. Der Beitrag verdichtet die möglichen Entwicklungspfade als Optionen zu dreiTypen: der Marktoption, Kulturoption und Zivilisationsoption.
