Abstract
Der K.G. Saur Verlag, ein Unternehmen der Thomson Corporation, und die Münchner Stadtbibliothek haben eine gemeinsame Evaluation zur Nutzung der neuen Gale Resource Center Datenbanken in einer der größten deutschen Öffentlichen Bibliotheken initiiert. Im Rahmen dieses Projektes erhielten die Leser der Zentralbibliothek Am Gasteig die Gelegenheit, kostenlos in acht englischsprachigen OnlineDatenbanken zu recherchieren und sekundenschnell Informationen zu fast allen denkbaren Themen zu gewinnen. Zur Verfügung standen: - Biography Resource Center: Eine einzigartige Quelle für die Suche nach internationalen Persönlichkeiten. Die Datenbank verbindet Informationen aus 90 verschiedenen biographischen Nachschlagewerken mit 250 Zeitungen und Zeitschriften im Volltext. - Literature Resource Center: Eine Datenbank mit biographischen und bibliographischen Informationen zu Autoren aller Länder, Zeiten und literarischen Genres. Die Informationen stammen aus Standard-Nachschlagewerken der Gale Gruppe, ca. 280 literaturwissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften im Volltext und ausgewählten Internetquellen. - History Resource Center. Modern World und History Resource Center: U.S.: Eine virtuelle Bibliothek wichtiger Quellen für das Studium der Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts und der Geschichte Amerikas seit 1492. Neben Artikeln aus Nachschlagewerken und Zeitschriften enthalten diese Datenbanken digitalisierte historische Originaldokumente, Bilder und Karten. - die auch von den großen Investmentbanken und Versicherungsgesellschaften weltweit genutzt werden. - Student Resource Center: Unterstützt als interdisziplinäre Datenbank insbesondere Schüler und Studenten bei ihren Recherchen in allen Themenbereichen, die für Schule und Studium relevant sind. - InfoTrac Custom Newspapers: Eine Datenbank mit tagesaktuellem Zugriff auf 150 englischsprachige, internationale Tageszeitungen mit zahlreichen Recherchemöglichkeiten - Times Literary Supplement Centenary Archive
