Abstract

Remarkable developments in the cost of storage and the quality of screen resolution exacerbate rather than solve the fundamental problem that has bedevilled image access from the beginning: one an information manager has several billion images on a storage disk, how will those images be retrieved? The potential of accessing images by keywords, comprehensive descriptions, and visual scanning of images are discussed. However, a more effective retrieval option might lie beyond defining foolproof terms - in defining the cultural milieu of the visual object
