Abstract
Die WeIt sieht sich spätestens seit der Weltkonferenz von Rio vor zehn Jahren vor der Herausforderung, eine nachhaltige Entwicklung bewusst zu gestalten. Das ist ein komplexes Thema, und die Dramatik der Konstellation hat nach dem 11.9.2001 und jetzt nach dem weitgehenden Scheitern der Weltkonferenz Rio+10 in Johannesburg weiter zugenommen. Eine faire Wechselwirkung zwischen den Kulturen dieser WeIt wird dabei zu einer Schlüsselfrage, ebenso wie die Überwindung der Armut bei gleichzeitiger Beachtung vom Umweltschutzanliegen und einem vorsichtigen Umgang mit knappen Ressourcen. Technische und gesellschaftliche Innovationen sind dabei unverzichtbarer Teil jeder Lösung.
