"Wenn ein Firmenname zum Verb mutiert, dann muss etwas passiert sein. "Googeln" ist so ein Wort. Der Duden führt esin den neuen Ausgaben, und in den USA ist es mal als "nützlichstes Wort des Jahres" prämiert worden Die Suchmaschine Google ist für Millionen eins Art virtuelles Eingangstor im Datenfluss geworden. Das sagt viel über die Attraktivität des Internets, aber noch mehr über den mehr und mehr sachlichen Umgang damit. Rund 47 Prozent aller Haushalte verfügen hier zu Lande über einen Internet-Anschluss. Damit liegt Deutschland im europäischen Mittelfeld - nicht so modern wie die Niederländer (66 Prozent), aber den Spaniern (30 Prozent) weit voraus. Bei den Jüngeren ist das Medium längst Alltag, während vielen Senloren die ersten Schritte immer noch schwer fallen (siehe Graphiken). Auf 14,5 Milliarden Euro Umsatz wird der Handel im vermutlich in diesem Jahr steigen Der Einkauf im digitalen Warenhaus ist wie ein Fahrkartenkauf bei der Bahn oder das Erstellen einer Überweisung für viele selbstverständlich geworden 35 Milionen Kunden nehmen finanzielle Transaktionen bei' der Bank online'vor. Nur noch jeder fünfte ist allein auf die Filialstellen angewiesen. 2,5 Prozent des gesamten Umsatzes im Einzelhandel werden inzwischen im Internet getätigt. Fast jedes achte Unternehmen handelt auch online. "Viele gerade aus dem mittelständischen Bereich haben sich den Gegebenheiten des Marktes angepasst", sagt Olaf Roik vom Händlerverband HDE. Sie seien zu "Multichannel-Anbietern" geworden - wohl die sinnvollste Strategie, um gegen "günstiger.de" und Co. zu bestehen.
Wie bei der Preis- und Produkt-Recherche, dem Hauptbetätigungsfeld im Netz, haben Forscher eine "neue Sachlichkeit" ausgemacht. Nachdem die erste Phase der Euphorie von einer Ernüchterung (aufgrund pädophiler und gewalttätiger Inhalte) abgelöst worden ist, bestimmt die Funktion den Mausklick. Der souveräne Leser gibt sich so viel Online-Stunden wie nötig und weiß die Muße einer Buchlektüre zu schätzen. Zeugnis dessen ist etwa, dass die Seminararbeit "Habermas' Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns", (Uni Osnabrück) für 12,90 Euro bei "Hausarbeiten.de" herunterzuladen ist. Oder die wundersame Entstehungsgeschichte der Enzyklopädie Wikipedia. Rund 2000 Autoren verbessern diese Schatzkammer des Wissens gemeinsarn mit unzähliqen aktiven Nutzern, die Inhalte eingeben oder verändern können. Eine Idee so groß wie das Netz: Das Wissen der Menschheit, so die Idee der amerikanischen Macher, soll möglichst breit Eingang finden. Die Behörden drängen ebenfalls ins Netz, wenn auch in Deutschland etwas langsamer: 66 Prozent aller öffentlicher Dienstleister sind im Web präsent. Europaweit gesehen ist das mäßig, die Schweden kommen auf 89 Prozent. Bemerkenswert auch, dass die Rationalität auf Bereiche übergegriffen hat, in denen sie eigentlich nichts zu suchen hat; der Partnersuche etwa. Ein Balzzentrum enormer Ausmaße hat sich längst etabliert. Und wenn irgendwo "django" (28/sportlich/reise gern) sucht, wird in der unendlichen Datei des Netzes ja wohl eine "Calla" (25/attraktiv/mag gemütliche Abende zu Hause) zu finden sein. "Liebe.de" oder "Friendscout24.de" haben Tausende aktiver Mitglieder registriert. Jugendliche nutzen vor allem Chats, um die eigene Wertigkeit zu prüfen. "Bin ich so interessant; dass ich die Mail-Adresse bekomme?" hat Psychologin Claudia Orthmann die Leitfrage genannt. Im Mittelpunkt stehe der Flirt und das Austesten von Grenzen. Dass dies alles im virtuellen Raum geschehe, senke die Hemmschwelle, sagt Orthmann. Emotionen müssten in Symbolen, wie ;-) untergebracht werden. Am besten sei, am Ende des Chats eine Telefonnummer zu bekommen. Dann ist die Brücke zum realen Raum gebaut."
