Abstract

OCLC bietet mit dem WorldCat ein wahrhaft umfassendes und gleichzeitig weitverzweigtes Instrument für Katalogisierung und Recherche an. In diesem Beitrag wird nach einer kurzen Betrachtung des Aufbaus von OCLC die Struktur sowie das Wachstum des WorldCat dargestellt. Dabei werden auch die zahlreichen, für die Nutzung sowohl aus bibliothekarischer Sicht als auch unter Endnutzeraspekten entwickelten Werkzeuge jeweils kurz beschrieben, die es erlauben, WorldCat für unterschiedliche Zwecke und auf unterschiedlichen Wegen zu nutzen.
