Abstract
Die Arbeit zeigt, dass die vielerorts beklagten Probleme von Benutzern mit Computern in hohem Maße durch die (zum Teil mangelhafte) sprachliche Gestaltung der jeweiligen Interfaces bedingt sind. Es wird die These vertreten, dass verbale Interface-Elemente trotz des zunächst augenfälligen hohen grafischen Aufwands von Benutzeroberflächen für den Aufbau von Sinn und interaktiver Ordnung bei der Bedienung eines hinreichend komplexen Systems als primär gelten können. Als Basis der Analyse dienen vor allem Aufnahmen der Dialoge von jeweils zwei Benutzern bei der gemeinsamen Arbeit am Computer in Verbindung mit entsprechenden Aufzeichnungen der Bildschirminhalte. Die Arbeit versteht sich als ein Plädoyer für mehr linguistische Kompetenz in der Softwaregestaltung wie auch für stärkere Investitionen der Industrie in die sprachliche Gestaltung von Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstellen.
