Abstract

Vor dem Hintergrund der stetig steigenden Flut von Informationen und einem immer enger werdenden Wettbewerbsumfeld, stellt sich für unternehmensinterne Informationszentren dringender denn je die Frage nach geeigneten Konzepten zur optimalen Unterstützung ihrer Kunden. Bei Ernst & Young entschied man sich nach einer Benchmarking Phase für den Ansatz der Spezialisierung. Ziel war es, innerhalb kürzester Zeit auf globaler Ebene eine branchenspezifische Ausrichtung der Information Professionals entsprechend der Kernkompetenzen von Ernst & Young zu erreichen und die Kunden so durch kompetente Ansprechpartner und ein speziell auf ihre jeweiligen Bedürfnisse abgestimmtes Produkt- und Dienstleistungsangebot effizient in ihrer Arbeit zu unterstützen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, begann man im Center for Business Knowledge (CBK), dem unternehmensinternen Informationszentrum bei Ernst & Young, Anfang 2000 mit dem Aufbau von so genannten Center of Competence. In einem ersten Schritt wurden dazu intensive Trainings- und Weiterbildungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt sowie zusätzliche Mitarbeiter eingestellt, die bereits über entsprechende Branchenkenntnisse verfügten. Als zweiten Schritt nahm man eine umfassende Umstrukturierung des CBK vor. Da die bisherige linienförmige Aufstellung der Information Professionals nach Aufgabenbereichen das geplante Modell der Spezialisierung nicht optimal unterstützte, begann man mit einer Aufstellung der einzelnen Teammitglieder nach Branchen, unabhängig von ihren Aufgabenbereichen. Da der Aufbau der Center of Competence bei Ernst & Young nicht nur auf lokaler Ebene sondern weltweit umgesetzt wurde, entstand im letzten Schritt ein globales Netzwerk von Branchenspezialisten, das einen regelmäßigen Wissensaustausch und eine optimale Bündelung von Ressourcen, insbesondere bei der Bearbeitung von internationalen Aufträgen, ermöglicht. Als gemeinsame Arbeitsplattform für die Center of Competence weltweit wurde ein internes Tracking System, das so genannte Global Workflow Tool entwickelt, das zusätzlich auch eine Skills Datenbank beinhaltet. Durch die Umwandlung der Information Professionals von Generalisten zu Spezialisten und ihre Einbindung in ein globales Expertennetzwerk ist es bei Ernst & Young gelungen, eine stark bedarfsorientierte Optimierung von Produkten und Dienstleistungen und damit letztlich einen eindeutigen Mehrwert für die Kunden zu schaffen
