Abstract
Mit der Übernahme der Kartensammlung des Geologischen und des Mineralogisch-Petrographischen Instituts der Universität Bern wurde an der Fachbereichsbibliothek Bühlplatz ein Konzept für eine frei zugängliche Kartensammlung entwickelt. Damit wird ein funktionierendes Verwaltungssystem für Karten angestrebt, welches im Hinblick auf die entstehenden Normen wenig präjudiziert. Das Konzept soll gegebenenfalls auch von anderen Kartensammlungen in Bern übernommen werden. In der Benutzung erfolgt ein erster Einstieg nach der formalen Ordnung Atlanten, Falt- und Planokarten und dem Regionalbegriff. Weder die DK noch die Library of Congress Classification boten eine befriedigende Lösung, die Entscheidung hierfür fiel zugunsten des geographischen Nummernregisters des Geo-Katalogs. Der zweite Einstieg erfolgt über eine thematische Gliederung, z.B. geophysikalische, topographische und Materialklasse, wie Kartenwerke, Einzelkarte, etc.
