Abstract

Aberdeen University's Directorate of Information Systems and Services, Heritage Division, is currently undertaking a programme to digitize sections of the written, printed and visual resources in its charge. The aim is to facilitate and increase access to the university's internationally important collections through the World Wide Web. Describes and compares three projects within the programme: the digitization of the Burnet Psalter (a 300-page mediaeval liturgical text), the papers of the 18th-century Scottish philosopher Thomas Reid, and engravings and woodcuts from the MacBean Stuart and Jacobite Collection. Considers the differences between each project, in particular the image capture pathways, image quality requirements, and file storage solutions
