Abstract
Aufgabe des Vorhabens war die Planung, durchführung und Bewertung geeigneter Maßnahmen zu einer dauerhaften Versorgung der wissenschaftlochen und technischen Mitarbeiter im GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ) mit naturwissenschaftlich-technischer Literatur- und Fakten-Informationen aus externen Datenbanken. Zu Beginn wurde eine Informationsbedarfsanalyse auf Abteilungsebene in Form von Interviews durchgeführt. Nach Absolvierung eines Einführungskurses für die Retrievalsprache Messenger erhielten alle interessierten Wissenschaftler eine Zugriffsberechtigung für STN-Datenbanken; mehr als 1/3 der Wissenschaftler haben davon Gebrauch gemacht. Die Kosten für Datenbankrecherchen lassen sich mit DM 400 pro Wissenschaftler und Jahr abschätzen. Nachteilig auf die Nutzung wirkten sich die kommandoorientierte Retrievalsprache und die Kosten für Anschaltzeiten bei Online-Diensten aus. Der Trend führt daher zu CD-ROM-Datenbanken im Campusnetz. Die Zahl der Literaturbestellungen konnte durch elektronische Lieferdienste verdreifacht werden. Die Infrastruktur zur Informationsversorgung im GFZ hat sich im Rahmen dieses Vorhabens grundlegend verändert: Die konventionelle Informationsvermittlung wurde durch ein effizientes Informationsmanagement ersetzt
