Abstract

Illustrate the value of collaboration and resource sharing by describing examples of European Commission supported projects and initiatives which have paved the way, technologically speaking, for bibliographic resource sharing and exchange in Europe. Considers the need to ensure that harmonisation does not smother diversity, that those who need information have access to it promptly and effectively, and examines the role of bibliographic records in providing building blocks for information resources such as library catalogues. Draws attention to OPAC sharing initiatives, to the CD-BIB project or the exchange of bibliographic data on CD-ROM, and the European Association for Grey Literature Exploitation (EAGLE) model
