Provides an overview of the potential value expert systems have for serials cataloguing. Defines an expert systems and discusses its advantages. Provides criteria for determining the suitability of a project for use with an expert system. discusses 4 technical services examples: AACR2; classification, duplicate record detection and merging; and shelflisting. Suggets ways in which cataloguers can get involved in the development of expert systems
