Abstract

Reports the rapid growth in usage of the Usenet on Internet: a means by which users can join in and gain access to a massive range of discussion groups on topics of interest. Notes the strength of the Usenet in there not being any central Usenet authority but in the way in which users can start up user groups with a minimum of effort. Traces the growth of the Usenet software from its origins in the 70s to the present
