Abstract

Changes in cataloguing rules and local traditions mean that the bibliographic database of the Swedish national network LIBRIS, designed in the 1970s, does not now meet requirements in consistency in design of headings, and the apparatus of references between variants is insufficient. Modern local systems with authority control for authors, titles and subject experience maintenance problems when receiving downloaded records. In order to combat this, the 3 largest Swedish university libraries, using VTLS software, are uploading authority records into LIBRIS where they act as advice to searchers and cataloguers. Describes methods, advantages/disadvantages, and theoretical background of this exercise
