Abstract

Discusses the theme of the library without walls or the virtual library, in the particular context of special libraries. The specific concerns discussed include: the guidance of the development of the virtual library so as to avoid the creation of a synthetic library; management of the transition for the benefit of all the users; revision of librarians' concept of the virtual library from science fiction to practical reality embodying Ranganathan's 5 laws of library science; maintaining and enhancing the role of librarians in a variety library environment
