Abstract

Das Gebiet des Information Retrieval führt längst kein Nischendasein mehr. Weltweite Rechnernetze, neue Speichermedien, Arbeitsplatzrechner, neue Eingabe- und Ausgabetechniken, gewandelter Umgang mit Informationen und ein als zunehmend drängend empfundener Bedarf an weitergehend integrierten Informationslösungen in nahezu allen Bereichen von Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft intensivieren die Nutzung vorhandener Angebote, erweitern das Anwendungspotential innovativer Techniken und fordern weitere methodisch-technische Fortschritte. Anwendern wird zunehmend bewußt, daß in der Regel nicht die Speicherung sehr großer und heterogener Informationsmengen das Problem (oder das Ziel) darstellt, sondern das Finden der aktuell benötigten Information
