Abstract

Provides an overview of the OSI Directory Service. The service is used to obtain information about named objects. It could be used to obtain the electronic mail address of a person given a person's name. While the Directory Service will typically be used for obtainig addresses of objects, other descriptive information can be returned as well. The Directory Service is a specialized distributed database. Describes the logical organization of information in this database, the protocols used to access this information, the methods of controlling access to the information, and the provisions for distributing, replicating and administering this information
