Abstract

Z39.50 is a widely discussed ANSI standard communication protocol that specifies the format of data that are exchanged when one computer is connected to another. Considers how the SIRSI corporation has addressed the question of physical connections, workstation capabilities and the organization and display of data for library automation. Provides a case study of the retrieval interface manager. Discusses the multiuser gateway; Internet navigator; researcher's access; intelligent interfaces; connectivity by the other vendor's OPACs; locally mounted databases; data displays and workstation options
