Abstract

Gives an overview of GIUKU, a set of tools to facilitate communication with, and operation of database systems. GIUKU addresses the needs of knowledgeable users and this supports the exploratory programming involved in developing new kinds of scientific and technical applications, GIUKU integrates three kinds of systems supporting: database manipulation, programming and operation of GIUKU itself. All GIUKU facilities rely on graphical direct-manipulation interfacing capabilities. Following a summary of their design principles, describes the GIUKU facilities, as seen from the user's perspective. Describes major functionality emphasizing its novel features and documenting it with a screen snapshot. Presents a comparison to related work, a critical discussion of the present implementation and a sketch of plans for the future
