Fundamental change is looming at every level of the online industry from hosts to database producers to consumers. CD-ROM's success in libraries has foreshadowed the rise of multimedia possibly signalling the death of some traditional online environments. Describes online ventures, most of which are tied to lines or cables or similar distribution mechanisms. Covers the 'information superhighway' touted by Gore and Clinton
