Abstract
Kommunikation ist zum "Zauberwort" der Moderne geworden. Obwohl der Begriff "Kommunikation" in seiner erst fünfzigjährigen Geschichte eine ungewöhnliche Karriere gemacht hat, ist überhaupt nicht klar, was darunter zu verstehen ist. Der Beitrag versucht, die Konzeptualisierung des Gegenstands "Kommunikation" als einen Weg von Mythen über Metaphern hin zu Modellen nachzuzeichnen. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die für die angewandte Gesprächsforschung zentrale theoretische Frage, wie sich "kommunikativer Erfolg" an der kommunikativen Praxis zeigen läßt. Voraussetzung dafür ist, daß sich Kommunikationstrainer und Klienten ebenso wie die Gesprächsteilnehmer konsequent zunächst als Beobachter von Gesprächen verstehen. Auf dieser Grundlage lassen sich dann Perspektiven und Aktivitäten rekonstruieren, die zu (womöglich unterschiedlichen) Konstruktionen von kommunikativer "Wirklichkeit" und von "Sinn" führen. Aus diesem Blickwinkel erscheint "kommunikativer Erfolg" als eine zugespitzt resultative Feststellung von Beobachtern über (konvergente) Konstruktionen der Gesprächsbeteiligten im Prozeß ihrer Interaktion. "Kommunikativer Erfolg" ist somit ein resultatives Urteil über bestimmte, positive interaktive Erfahrungen. Ziel einer angewandten Gesprächsforschung müßte es unter dieser Perspektive sein, den Blick und das Ohr für jene interaktiven Aktivitäten und Konstruktionen der Beteiligten zu schulen, die in die gemeinsame Produktion von "Sinn" eingehen.
