Abstract

Es gibt nur zwei Gebiete im Großhirn der Säugetiere, in denen noch nach der Geburt neue Nervenzellen entstehen: die Wand der Seitenventrikel und der Gyrus dentatus im Hippokampus. Seitdem Techniken zur Verfügung stehen, um die neuen Zellen einfach und zuverlässig anzufärben, fasziniert dieser Vorgang Wissenschaftler und Laien, verspricht Erneuerung doch intuitiv so etwas wie Jugend, Offenheit, Lernfähigkeit.
