Abstract
Die American Chemical Society hat ihren Rechtsstreit gegen die "Piraten-Website" Sci-Hub gewonnen. Ein Gericht in Virginia verurteilte Sci-Hub zu einem Schadenersatz von 4,8 Millionen Dollar und untersagte Internet-Dienstleistern, Suchmaschinenbetreibern und Registrierstellen von Domain-Namen, ihre eventuelle Zusammenarbeit mit Sci-Hub fortzusetzen.

Bereits im vergangenen Jahr hatte Sci-Hub einen ähnlichen Rechtsstreit gegen Elsevier verloren, sich aber geweigert, Schadenersatzzahlungen zu leisten. Sci-Hub vertreibt die von ihm gestohlenen wissenschaftlichen Beiträge über eine Vielzahl von Websites, unter anderem über das anonyme Netzwerk Tor. Zwar will ACS versuchen, alle diese Websites zu finden und die Eliminierung illegal angebotener Papiere zu erwirken. Sci-Hub könnte aber immer noch mit seinen Angeboten in andere Länder überwechseln.
