Abstract

Ständig hinterlässt jeder von uns zahlreiche digitale und digitalisierbare Spuren. Algorithmen sammeln diese Daten, lernen, sie zu interpretieren, und können so mehr über den Einzelnen offenbaren, als dieser über sich selbst weiß. Staaten und Konzerne wollen Menschen mit diesen Informationen überwachen und manipulieren - vermeintlich zu ihrem Besten. Doch wer entscheidet, was das ist? Mit den Verlockungen der Informationsgesellschaft von erhöhter Leistung und Lebensqualität kommen auch Bedrohungen für unsere Freiheit und Privatsphäre. Wie schützen wir diese Grundwerte in einer Welt, in der praktisch alles gespeichert und ausgewertet wird, und wie gewinnen wir die Kontrolle über unser digitales Ich zurück? Dieses Sonderheft will Anregungen zur Diskussion dieser Fragestellungen geben. Ein Teil der Beiträge ist hervorgegangen aus den Vorträgen des 20. Berliner Kolloquiums der Daimler und Benz Stiftung, das 2016 stattfand. (17. Februar 2017)
