Abstract
Beim VD 16, 17 und 18 handelt es sich um drei retrospektive Nationalbibliographien des 16., 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts. Angelegt wurden die drei Verzeichnisse der im deutschen Sprachraum/Sprachbereich erschienenen Drucke zeitlich versetzt zueinander. Die gesamte Entstehungsspanne reicht dabei mittlerweile über 50 Jahre. Dass es im Laufe der Zeit zu methodischen Verschiebungen gekommen ist, erstaunt deshalb wenig. Dieser Artikel konzentriert sich gezielt auf Veränderungen, die sich durch technische Entwicklungen für den Charakter der VDs ergeben haben. Als wesentliche technische Einflussgrößen lassen sich Verzeichnisformate und Digitalisierungsmöglichkeiten beschreiben. Folgen und Chancen ergeben sich daraus vor allem für vier Bereiche: Funktionen, Erschließungsstandards und Vollständigkeit der VDs sowie die Zugriffsmöglichkeiten auf ihre Daten.
