Abstract
Open-Source-Projekte sind mittlerweile vor allem im Rahmen der Produktion von Software oder Wissensdatenbanken eine feste Größe; man denke z.B. an die Bürosoftware OpenOffice, den Webbrowscr Firefox, dem DTP Programm Scribus oder dem Grafikprogramm Gimp. Ohne nun an dieser Stelle eine ausführliche Definition zu Open Source zu geben, sei soviel gesagt: Es stammt aus der Softwareproduktion und meint, dass der Quelltext, aus dem die Software besteht komplett offen gelegt ist, jeder daran mitschreiben und Veränderungen vornehmen kann. Zentral ist das offene und kooperative Zusammenarbeiten an dem jeweiligen Projekt, das dann im Ergebnis kostenfrei für die Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Darüber hinaus entwickeln sich zunehmend Unternehmungen, die den Open-SourceGedanken, der eng mit dem Begriff "open access" verknüpft ist - auch wenn beide nicht deckungsgleich sind, in andere gesellschaftliche Bereiche tragen, z.B. im Rahmen der Stadtplanung, von Bürgerbeteiligungen; es wird unter anderem auch von einem ersten "Open-Source-Auto" - OSCar - gesprochen, einem Auto, dass komplett im Rahmen des Open-Source-Gedankens erstellt wird. Unabhängig vom Erfolg der einzelnen Projekte steht die besondere Form der Wissensproduktion im Mittelpunkt. Die gemeinschaftliche Wissensproduktion, die leichte Zugriffsmöglichkeit und besonders das Teilen von Wissen sind im Open-Source-Gedanken eng miteinander verknüpft. Aus diesem Grund markiert der Titel unseres explorativen Beitrags "Wissen verbindet - verbindet Wissen" genau jene beiden Ebenen des Open-Source-Modells: Vergemeinschaftung durch Wissensproduktion, Wissensproduktion durch Verbindungen. Und diese Aspekte sollen zugleich im Fokus unserer Betrachtung stehen. Dabei geht es weniger um die Analyse empirischen Materials, sondern mehr um einen Entwurf einer Perspektive auf den Open-Source-Gedanken.
