Abstract

Defines multimedia in terms of the overlap of publishing, broadcasting and computing technologies and sets out criteria that may be used to evaluate multimedia databases involving: hardware requirements; ease of installation; navigation and presentation; multimedia searching; user feedback; scope and quality of multimedia content; integration of media; data export capabilitities; product support; and overall value. Steps taken to evaluate databases include: identification of products; examinations of critical reviews; logging of questions, problems and comments; obtaining a review copy; installing and test running the product; trying the database out on users; seeking help; and deciding if the product is the one required
