Abstract
Der folgende Beitrag ordnet die Informationswissenschaft in den nationalen und internationalen Kanon der Wissenschaftsdisziplinen ein und zeigt deren Besonderheiten und Wurzeln auf. Im Zentrum steht die Informationswissenschaft an der Universität Hildesheim, deren Schwerpunkte sich inhaltlich im Bereic der internationalen Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion und des Cross-Language Information Retrieval ansiedeln. Kurz werden auch neuere Forschungsgebiete und -methoden angesprochen. Der Beitrag schließt mit einem Blick auf zukünftige Entwicklungsperspektiven.
