Abstract

»Liebe Besucherinnen und Besucher der Stadtbibliothek, wir möchten Sie darauf aufmerksam machen, dass das Haus in 15 Minuten geschlossen wird. Wir danken für Ihren Besuch!« Für die Kundinnen und Kunden der Kölner Zentralbibliothek ist dies eine vertraute Durchsage - doch dem Internet sei Dank müssen sie auch zu Hause nicht ganz auf ihre Bibliothek verzichten.

"Bereits seit 1996 ist die StadtBibliothek Köln im WWW präsent. Mehr und mehr bibliothekarische Dienstleistungen fanden dort ihre Entsprechung. Selbstverständlich kann man online im Bestandskatalog recherchieren, Vormerkungen tätigen und das eigene Nutzerkonto verwalten. Informationen über die vielfältigen Serviceangebote und Projekte fehlen ebenso wenig wie ein ausführlicher Veranstaltungskalender. Auch die Beratung findet bei Bedarf online statt. Per Auskunftsformular können an den Informationsdienst Anfragen gestellt werden, die mit einem Ticketingsystem verwaltet und in einem bibliothekarischen Auskunftsverbund beantwortet werden. Es wäre zwar wünschenswert und technisch auch kein Problem, diese zurzeit noch zeitversetzte Kommunikation durch einen Live-Chat zu ersetzen, doch die dafür erforderlichen Personalressourcen sind leider in Köln derzeit nicht vorhanden. Die eingehenden Anfragen werden jedoch in der Regel innerhalb weniger Stunden beantwortet. Das Rechercheangebot der realen Bibliothek wird insbesondere durch die Digitale Bibliothek erweitert. Das vom nordrhein-westfälischen hbz betriebene Portal ist im Layout der Stadtbibliotheks-Homepage gehalten, sodass es von den Kundinnen und Kunden als exklusives Angebot der eigenen Bibliothek wahrgenommen wird. Authentifizierte Bibliotheksmitglieder können damit von zu Hause aus per Metasuche parallel in einer Vielzahl von kostenfreien und kostenpflichtigen Datenbanken und Gesamtkatalogen recherchieren. Per Verfügbarkeitsrecherche kann von jedem gefundenen Zeitschriftenaufsatz oder Buch festgestellt werden, ob der Titel in der Stadtbibliothek oder einer anderen Bibliothek am Ort vorhanden ist. Damit werden nicht nur die in der Bibliothek vorhandenen Zeitschriften besser erschlossen, die Nutzerinnen und Nutzer verfügen außerdem über einen virtuellen Gesamtkatalog (fast) der gesamten Stadt, der aktuelle Ausleihstatus des gewünschten Mediums kann direkt über einen Link in den Opac der jeweiligen Bibliothek aufgerufen werden."
