Abstract
Der Beitrag stellt den Status Quo der sachlichen Erschliessung im Österreichischen Verbundkatalog dar und thematisiert auch die Rolle sachlicher Rechercheelemente in einem zukünftigen, auf Suchmaschinentechnologie basierenden Retrievalsystem. Knapp 40% des etwa 6,6 Millionen Titeldatensätze zählenden Katalogs sind durch Schlagwörter bzw. Ketten nach RSWK (Regeln für den Schlagwortkatalog) erschlossen. Als Verbundklassifikationen fungieren die BK (Basisklassifikation), die ZDB-Systematik (ZETA-Fachgruppen), die DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification), die RVK (Regensburger Verbundklassifikation) sowie die MSC (Mathematics Subject Classification), wobei hier die auch in Österreich auf immer breiterer Basis eingesetzte RVK mit ca. 433.000 Datensätzen (rund 6,6%) die führende Position einnimmt. Der Autor vertritt die Hypothese, dass sich die RSWK-Schlagwörter für die facettierte Navigation in einem zukünftigen OPAC weniger gut eignen werden, da sie zu stark aufgesplittete Untermengen bilden würden, und hält ein grobes Klassifikationssystem für die erfolgversprechendere Basis einer thematischen Facette. Abschliessend werden daher die Optionen für eine grossflächigere Ausstattung der Verbunddatenbank mit Notationen der Basisklassifikation diskutiert.
