Abstract

"Ist es nicht eigentlich verwunderlich zu glauben, dass mit gezielter Planung, auf der Grundlage von Wissen, das man hat, und wenn man es nicht hat, das man sich besorgen kann, ( was man dann Wissenschaft nennt), alle Probleme der Welt gemeistert werden können? Es ist wohl die Erwartung vieler, die auf die Wissenschaften schauen, (aber die nicht selber in der Forschung tätig sind), dass Wissensvermehrung in erster Linie der Problembewältigung gilt. Schaut man aber um sich (und auch in sich), dann muss man feststellen, dass wir mit dem angereicherten Wissen, das immer mehr wird, (und das niemand mehr überblicken kann), bei der Lösung von Problemen nicht weit gekommen sind; im Gegenteil: man gewinnt den Eindruck, dass durch mehr Wissen mehr Probleme geschaffen werden. Ein Grund (nur ein Grund) dafür, mit den Problemen der Welt und mit unseren eigenen Problemen nicht zurecht zu kommen, ist ein falsches oder besser: ein zu eingeschränktes Wissen über das Wissen selbst, sich nämlich auf nur einen Teil dessen, was Wissen umfasst, zu beziehen."
Fazit: "Doch wie kann man dies alles kommunizieren? Es ist offenkundig, dass die drei Formen des Wissens in jeweils unterschiedlicher Weise vermittelt werden und vermittelt werden müssen. Doch wissenschaftliche Kompetenz und wissenschaftlicher Erfolg beruhen auf allen Formen des Wissens. Hier stellt sich eine völlig neue Herausforderung der Wissensvermittlung, die über die Repräsentation des expliziten oder des topologischen bildlichen Wissens in den üblichen Formen weit hinausgeht. Bibliotheken müssen auch Orte sein, in denen alle Formen des Wissens zur Geltung kommen."
